Chcel by som zdieľať zopár slov o work-in-progress prezentácii s názvom Performance Study with Beáta Freriks. I am working with a topic that reflects my perspective traveling intimately through different cultures. Shame. Shame is human. It seems to come from embodied moral agreements with 'our' culture. And it is a quiet, personal call from inside to be seen and healed by that culture in return. But shame is a very precarious topic because it is so subjective and emotionally expressive (which I like), so I searched for something concrete to focus on. I decided to work with the body's natural reminders of the mistakes we make in life, the visible scar and scar tissue. Also a sensitive subject. I thought I would like to share this process with other people from the various cultures and places that I travel to regularly- to share stories, to touch these parts of the body, and to explore movement practices around them- collecting movements for a solo study that I would perform. But things never turn out how we plan them. Beáta Freriks and I become friends about 1 year ago through her son, my friend. Uncommon to most Slovak women of her age she speaks English very well because she migrated to my country in 1983. From first contact she was very open with me about her life's unlikely turns and was curious about me, my life and what I do. I thought she would be the perfect person to share this process with. Surprisingly, Beáta expressed an interest in performing herself, so I changed my plan and decided to use my process to build a solo for her. The KIOSK festival is the perfect opportunity for Beáta's debut as a performer and to get some reflections from our community about what the next steps together could be.
