A o chvíľu nielen tam. Tu nastal prekvapivý zvrat, nakoľko svietič predstavenia poodhalil nechcene nahé telo Hugwalda. Vzhľadom na miestne a dobové pomery socialistického zariadenia nabrala udalosť škandálne rozmery. Ľudia videli, čo nechceli vidieť, zatiaľ čo Hugwald to nevzdal a dohovoril celý text. Stal sa skutočným nositeľom textu, svetelnosti a nahoty. Na základe tohto príbehu si ho vybrala umelá inteligencia – Nulanus a zrodila statočného, extrémne pamäťovo vyzbrojeného jedinca - schopného čeliť všetkým nástrahám a otázkam sveta a vesmíru.

We find ourselves in a post-extinction world of humanity; all that is left is an artificial intelligence that creates a projection of a human (called a Hugwald) based on surviving fragmentary information. The projection is also the space itself, an abandoned ski lift, which it explores through Hugwald.

Miroslav Tóth's operatic work is concerned with the deformative or commentary development of this genre, where traces of the original format of opera have long since been obliterated, perhaps opening up the possibility of starting anew or elsewhere than we might have imagined. With the music making and performativity of opera integrates the experience of documentary filmmaking, insights into environmental issues, urban commentaries on forgotten or non-existent places, as well as a fascination with humanity's unwavering desire to look to the future while forgetting the present, and not remembering our own past at all.

In his previous short video operas Zub za Zub or Oko za Oko (2010 - 2013), he responded to urban and social realities of the present from the towns of Banská Štiavnica or Humenné in collaboration with Marek Kundlák and Michal Paľek. This was followed by the sci-fi trilogy Rod (2014 - 2018), in which variations illuminated the relationship of officials to power, i.e. to the rod. In the first volume, The Miraculous Massage Rod, Tóth created a squat opera format for officials in public institutions in Arnhem, the Netherlands. In the following video opera, The Rod, he presented the realities of an employee's sacrifice in a workplace resembling a hotel. And in the final episode, The Mystery of the Rod, he focused on the last days in the lives of officials sent to the planet Pluto. After this trilogy, he moved on to the next trilogy.

The new opera Nulanus is the second continuation of the Shadows trilogy by the creative duo of Miroslav Tóth and Michaela Rosová. The first volume was about the demise of dramatic opera in the form of The Man in the Suit.  It was inspired by the story of the last man on the moon - Eugene Andrew Cernan, whose grandparents were from Czechoslovakia. But in Tóth's version, Cernan appeared as the last man on Earth. It was a performance set in theatrical and site-specific interiors. Nulanus abandons this principle of working in a traditional space. He takes the audience to a ski lift in the summer, creating the concept of a sound walk intervened by ambisonic music reproduction, trombones hidden somewhere behind the trees, a drone circling overhead, and performers singing into a walkie-talkie, representing a clone of one man. This time, listeners are advised to wear sturdy shoes. Nulanus plays with reality as he walks and the sun sets at the end.

The Promethean principle that winds around the enigmatic figure is surprisingly prosaic and originally heroic. We will reveal only one significant detail of it, which also appears in Nulanus. In the late 1980s, Hugwald was an amateur actor. He was the only one who had memorized the extremely complex text of Prometheus. He performed in front of an audience in the theatre of the local house of culture. His hands were tied. A spotlight was trained on his face. And in a moment, not only there. There was a surprising twist, as the spotlight of the performance unwittingly revealed Hugwald's naked body. Considering the local and contemporary conditions of the socialist establishment, the event took on scandalous proportions. People saw what they didn't want to see, while Hugwald didn't give up and finished the entire text. He became the true bearer of the text, luminosity and nudity. Based on this story, an artificial intelligence - Nulanus - chose him and gave birth to a brave, extremely memory-armed individual - capable of facing all the pitfalls and questions of the world and the universe. It did not create just one, but on the extinct planet Earth it created many, many, the same and other Hugwalds.

"As such, the work creates a new species, a living organism with an intense insistence on the perception of our being without taken-for-grantedness and constant presence. It buries anthropocentrism and deliberately leaves its bare bones sticking out, forcing us to think about what is happening to humanity through the direct experience of the many possible conclusions of how it will end."
